Profession: Director of Communications and Public Relations Manager / Mövenpick Resort & Residence Aqaba Hotel
Years with Zara: 10 years
“I am proud of Zara for its accomplishments, I am proud to be part of its successes and I am proud of its investments in Jordan.”
A woman with a purpose; Layali Nashashibi shares with Zara her experience, her challenges and her accomplishments as a Jordanian woman working in the tourism and hospitality industry.
10 years ago, Layali Nashashibi joined the team at Mövenpick Resort and Residence Aqaba hotel as an Executive Secretary. Almost immediately after she was hired, Layali was given additional responsibilities as a Public Relations Officer. A year later, she was promoted to the Communications & Public Relations Manager at the Hotel and now she holds the position of Director of Communications and Public Relations Manager.
Working in Public Relations was a challenge which Layali took advantage of to move forward in her job. Her persistence in learning about the day to day hotel operations and her eagerness to ask and learn from her colleagues opened doors for her to progress. She specifically mentions Mr. Peter Hoesli, the General Manager at the Hotel who has been her mentor throughout the years.
When asked about her role as a Jordanian woman working in the tourism and hospitality industry, Layali felt that she was an integral part of the local community and was concerned that, to this day, there are families who have reservations about their daughters working at a hotel.
“Women should be playing a bigger role in tourism in Jordan, we see this around the world as the norm, and women should be more prevalent in this sector”. Layali continues to add that there is no way to better represent our culture, our traditions and our true Jordanian hospitality than to become ambassadors at our own country to people coming from all over the world to visit. “There is nothing more rewarding than giving a tourist a piece of your culture and traditions”.
“Hospitality gives back as much as you invest in it; Hospitality is not just about generosity, it is about going the extra mile to make sure that your guest is well treated and respected. It is about making the guest feel comfortable enough to leave with a mindset to return to Jordan for another visit. This is the true testimony of good hospitality”.
Layali conveys a message to the Jordanian youth and women to become more involved and engaged in the tourism and hospitality industry as it refines the personality and provides a better understanding on how to deal with diverse nationalities and cultures.
